Photographs and Memories

Photographs and Memories

How many losses can Angela endure? Angela and Kevin must move to Florida, and fast! They have just discovered that Angela’s younger sister, Martha, is sponging off Angela’s elderly parents in Florida. But they must give up all they have, including their home in New York to move south. Once they get there, they must find new jobs and a place to live. Soon after they arrive, Angela’s mother dies and her father has to be placed in a nursing home. Martha still resists moving out of the family home. Under all of the strain, Kevin suffers a stroke. How will Angela cope on her own? Photographs and Memories is based on the author’s own experiences with aging parents and losing a husband. This will ring true for anyone who has had similar losses.

Passion’s Evidence

From Love’s Music:

The drums, horns, cymbals
Stir my blood’s pulse
As they must have stirred yours

From Picking Strawberries:

My fingers drool scarlet like a wine maker’s.
Passion’s evidence-
Eating strawberries
Too succulent and sweet for summer.
I let juices run down my fingers
And knees in crimson worms,

To Ty
I feel you in the pauses
And silence
In the moments of peace
Only your breath breaks the air;
Your warmth penetrates me
All is serene.

Passions Evidence

From the lush and sensual to the quiet and serene, Passion’s Evidence, open up a newly observed world for women and men to appreciate and experience in this collection of finely crafted poems.

What do reviewers say about Photographs and Memories?

  • From Barnes and Noble Book Review****:In Photographs and Memories, readers will share the journey of one wife, mother, and daughter who is determined to create the best and most meaningful life possible, even in the face of frequent and devastating loss.
  • From Reader Views*****:A poignant story. It will resonate mainly with middle-aged females who have elderly parents or spouses for whom they are the main caregiver.
  • Reader’s Favorite****:This is a very emotional story, and a harsh reality, one that most adult children have either faced or will face in the future. This is a fast read that will grab the reader from the beginning.
  • From Midwest Book Review*****:A story that will ring true for many women, Photographs and Memories is a fine choiceandvery highly recommended.

What reviewers say about Passion’s Evidence:

  • A Barnes and Noble review*****:“From the pleasure in eating fresh strawberries right from the vine to her belief in the connection that be found only in true love to the healing powers of quiet moments at the beach, Fifield has seemingly transferred offered herself as an emotional offering to her readers….For those who appreciate the power that a poem has to capture a moment in time, Passion’s Evidence is a recommended addition to your collection.
  • From All Books Review: recommendedFifield has an ability to shift gears, with startling contrasts. In her opening poem, she moves from strawberry picking, with the juice on her fingers called “passion’s evidence,” but then to her “knees in crimson worms,” and from that to a stream of consciousness: “A space to be alone/to think of you” followed by another shift: “The click of the register rings up trays,” and so it’s on to business.
  • From Book of the Month Review in Boomer Times (December 2010):“This 77-page book is worth every penny, whether you keep it for your own collection or purchase it for a gift. It reads quickly, with each poem’s meaning easily understood.”
